Accreditation & Continuing Education Credit

ACLS Training Association offers ACLS, BLS, and PALS recertification. These training programs are approved to provide CEU credits in joint partnership with the Postgraduate Institute for Medicine (PIM) and through the Commission on Accreditation for Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (CAPCE).

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of healthcare providers involved in the care of patients in cardiac arrest.

Educational Objectives

Each certification has distinct educational objectives.
ACLS
Students learn to manage and respond to nearly all cardiopulmonary emergencies. Upon completion of this training you will be able to:
  • Describe the BLS Primary Survey and ACLS Secondary Survey with critical actions.
  • Describe the important elements of effective resuscitation team dynamics.
  • Describe the clinical situations in which the following airway adjuncts may be used for airway management: oropharyngeal airway (OPA), nasopharyngeal airway (APC), bag-mask ventilation, and advanced airway.
  • Recognize VF and VT on the ECG.
  • Recall indications, contraindications, doses, and routes of administration for drugs recommended for refractory VF/Pulseless VT.
  • Follow the ACLS initial assessment and management recommendations in the ACLS algorithms.
  • Apply the 8 Ds of stroke care and explain why timely action is crucial.
  • Describe the major signs and symptoms of stroke.
BLS
Students learn the basic steps of CPR and rescue breathing for adults, children, and infants. Upon completion of this training you will be able to:
  • Recall the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  • Demonstrate the basic steps of CPR for adults, children, and infants.
  • Perform rescue breathing for adults, children, and infants.
  • Administer breaths using a bag-valve mask device and pocket face mask.
  • Perform CPR as a lone rescuer or as a part of a 2-rescuer team.
  • Demonstrate the appropriate procedure and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).
PALS
Students learn to manage and respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies in pediatric patients. Upon completion of this training you will be able to:
  • Describe the timely recognition and interventions required to prevent respiratory and cardiac arrest in any pediatric patient.
  • Describe the systematic approach to pediatric assessment by using the initial impression, primary and secondary assessments, and diagnostic tests.
  • Describe priorities and specific interventions for infants and children with respiratory and/or circulatory emergencies.
  • Explain the importance of effective team dynamics, including individual roles and responsibilities, during a pediatric resuscitation.
  • Describe the key elements of post-resuscitation management.
  • Perform effective high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) when appropriate.
  • Perform effective respiratory management within your scope of practice.
  • Select and apply appropriate cardiorespiratory monitoring.
  • Select and administer the appropriate medications and electrical therapies when presented with an arrhythmia scenario.
  • Establish rapid capsular access to administer fluid and medications.
  • Demonstrate effective communications and team dynamics both as a team member and as a team leader.

Accreditation Statement

These programs have been prior approved by the American Association of Nurse Anethetists for Class A CE credits.

Effective May 1, 2013, the AANA does not award CME credits for BLS certification or recertification courses. This change was made in response to a revision by the American Nurses Credentialing Centers (ANCC) with the goal of providing quality educational offerings that provide CRNAs supplemental courses that meet their level of licensure.
